Oh! I love the idea of creating my own seasons, as many as I want! Garden preparation, Seed planting, 1st visit to the mountains, Solstice visit to the mountains, Past-peak visit to the mountains...

🌱Thank you for this. False Coleus Season is only too real!

A few days ago, The Chimney Swifts Return Season began here.

Good morning, Karen.

T’was beloved neighbor Mike who called out False Coleus Season, in honor of the year he and I attended a plant sale, both bought and put out beautiful hothouse Coleus too early, then watched them utterly languish and had to buy a second round. It is only too real.

But Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh, Chimney Swifts Return Season. Now that is brilliant!

Thank you so very kindly for adding to this playful potluck.

Oh what delightful endless game, irresistible!

I think I might bore you dear David if I were to tell of all the seasons I wander through, each with their own magic, each holding as much if not more than the one prior and of course all are my favourites but I cannot leave without mentioning a few; catkin season, snowdrop season, mad March hare season, honey scented Mimosa season, nightingales returning season, ripe cherry season, bare foot season, first tomatoes season, first apricot season, stag barking season, wild mushroom season, cobweb season, the smell of autumn season, copper beech leaf season, oh and so many more...

Silly girl.

"I think I might bore you dear David if I were to tell of all the seasons I wander through, each with their own magic..."

And then you tumble out these first fourteen which are simply perfection.

Barefoot Season. First Apricot Season. Cobweb and Smell of Autumn... Catkins and Ripe Cherries... Each of these feels just right.

But then, of course they do. You are that wondrous, notices everything girl from halfway across the world who understands why there needs to be a Copper Beech Leaf season to provide a bit of magic and balance, to help refocus one's attention and lessen one's longing as days shorten and First Tomatoes season fades farther and farther into the swirl of recent memory.

Ever grateful for you, Susie. And wishing that some wonderful moment will find you and twirl you about just when you least expect it today.

My big sis wrote:

"Prob’ly the one I wait for most is the “Cicada Emergence”.

"Reckon there’s one for “turtle huntin’?”

So many of the best possible seasons to celebrate began carving out a place within us when we were just kids. “Cicada Emergence” is a grand and mysterious season that I haven't been present for in decades but one she eagerly looks forward to each summer! And "Turtle Hunting" season, oh my... For Deb and me it dates back to childhood afternoons in Stillwater, Oklahoma where with our little sis, Cyndi, we could not help but notice that whenever we were about to find another Box Turtle going about its daily wander, there was this distinctive smell in the air, one we attributed to some botanical scent whose source always eluded us, but that somehow wafted through the air, almost prophetically. Whenever we smelled that earthy, minor key perfume, that mysterious bouquet, then the odds went up wildly that we were about to find a wild turtle. Six decades later, I can still, sometimes, almost remember that smell. It hovers there, just out of reach. But like my sis, its verity as a 'season' is forever hard-wired and forever sacred. If I happened into even the faintest whiff of it now, I am certain I would be able to time-travel, back sixty years, back to the red dirt prairies of Oklahoma. And I'd be looking all around me for a box turtle...

Okay, you had me at Seersucker Sundays! 🤗

My additions to your glorious list might be:

Magnolia blossoms

Tulips burst thru the dirt

Teensy, tiny leaves pop out of seemingly no where on my red bark maple

First bite of sweet corn with copious butter, salt and peppa

First wood fire on a crisp evening

First snow on my tongue

What a delightful creation game!

Each proposed season is worthy of the deeming, but these two, Tey... Be still my heart!

Love all these seasons!

Mine would depend on region I was in. In the PNW, “return of the osprey season.” In the southwestern US desert, “ocotillo bloom season.” To name a couple.

Here in the Northwest I am eagerly awaiting "return of the osprey season." Thought I heard one the other day but a careful scanning of the skies left me thinking that maybe a Starling was pranking me... And yes, LOVE "Ocotillo Bloom Season" and got several hits of it last month , among the saguaros in the Tucson area.

Thank you for playing so generously, Holly. And for the smiles.

I planted a lilac late last summer, just a little bush for now, not even 3 feet tall. . . But TODAY it's very first flowers opened! It is definitely Lilac Blooming Season and my heart is full of sweet 💜 memories.

During Covid (2020) I went for lots of walks around the neighborhood. Someone had a bucket with lilac cuttings they were giving away. It was just a stick really. This year it has buds to bloom for the first time. Smiling.
