Thought I’d let you know that I’m in some trouble here, this morning, after yelling David’s name with such urgency that he thought I was injured, rather than just needing to share these mind-blowingly cool nests that your Bushtit neighbors are making. Totally worth it, of course.

I don’t know is it’s possible for humans to have nest-envy, but if it is, I have it. Thank you so, so much for all these gorgeous images, my friend.

A lovely read David, I feel slightly envious of anyone who lives where there are humming birds, the closest we get here is the humming bird moth, as fascinating as it is, there is no comparison!

Delicious spring! Such interesting notes you share with your attention to all the new nesting goings-on---I love hearing and learning. It's a wonder to imagine a pile of Bushtits all snuggled down together in their long-sock-of-a-nest! Sweet, sweet spring...

These are wonderful photos, too, of the charming Bewick's Wren so busy building in the familiar spot---oh may she raise her brood of fiesty charmers successfully! She looks so confident!

I love the scenes & sounds; love peeking in to your corner with all its variety of special bird-guests---yeah the lineage of life is springing up with all kinds of hope... I'm all in for more.

Years ago I had a chicken that would not leave her egg post and she would not eat. I was worried. I checked in with the bird store owner and he laughed and said, “She’s brooding and wants a male. Even chickens get lonely!”

Thank you, David, for this delightful glimpse of magic..from Grandma’s table to birds springtime nesting rituals. I can feel the excitement in your story and in the air🫶

Those bushtit nests are so elaborate and beautiful! Five star accommodations. Please do keep us updated, you illuminate the wildness with such keen presence, it’s a gift to be on the receiving end…well, sort of… I suppose nature is the lucky and immediate recipient but I’ll take what I can get! 🕊️

No longer shining with a beautifully buffed wood grained finish. Now. deep scratches, stains and dents whisper stories of a lifetime spent in service to generations of family gatherings. So many wonderful memories. So many hands imprinted in its surface. Touched with love.

Your grandmother’s table. Increasing in grandeur with every passing year.

I can’t think of a better place to sit and observe an entire community of birds in your own garden. Choosing your little piece of the world to raise their young, is indeed the highest compliment .

How appropriate when you think on it.

What a gift this morning - thank you. 😊 I look forward to progress reports on this year’s nest building. I’m always hopeful a Rufous or Anna might choose to build their nest in the Hinoki Cypress adjacent to one of the feeders in my small garden. 🤞

This is absolutely delightful and making me consider relocating to your neck of the woods (wherever that may be) to enjoy an Anna’s hummingbird in early spring! We only have the ruby-throated here and much later in the season. But I am enjoying watching the goldfinches take on their bright summer garb and seeing a Carolina chickadee couple checking out our nesting box (one can still hope but they always lose out to the house wrens). Your words are making me look deeper at my own backyard and the wonders therein.
