Then a wanderer came forth and said to the young shrike, Speak to us of mouse toes.
And she smiled and attempted to speak but could not, for her mouth was full of tiny little mouse toes at that very moment, and even a ticklish, little mouse tail.
And so no one thought her rude for not replying to the wanderer, either in word or song for they could see her predicament plainly and understood that in her exuberant silence she had explained everything important to a shrike about mouse toes, just the same.
And so it came to pass…
Sounds like a fairy tale from the brothers Grimm, but curiously , it does not start out with once upon a time. Then I am to assume it is classic David P, storytelling truths , spun with a bit of whimsy, recording conversations using a feathered quill dipped in fairy dust.
I would love an entire novel. 👏
I love this most interesting glimpse of a shrike in delicious (to her) dilemma.
I mean, who ever gets to see this?! Totes cool.
Especially love this word pairing:
"...exuberant silence..."
