How Pious? Berry Pious!
pi·ous, adjective 1. devoutly religious. 2. making a hypocritical display of virtue. 3. (of a hope) sincere but unlikely to be fulfilled.


First, ripe, edible berry of the season; in it goes. Yumm! Every variety.
It’s not a hard and fast rule, but it is something I try to practice, religiously, only, you know …without the actual religion. (If only religions seemed to make people kinder.) Anyway, been doing this since childhood. First berry. Mulberries, blackberries, huckleberries, blueberries, raspberries, salmon berries, thimble berries, dew berries, service berries, wild strawberries, wild cherries. Spied my first, ripe, Himalayan Blackberry a few days ago. The first inky one amongst tens of thousands of greenies. Gonna be a big blackberry year. Ate it. Loved it. Chased it with a dozen or so thimbleberries. They’re wildly abundant in these parts just now. More than usual. So tangy. So red. So good!
